Be Prepared to Have Fun: Arbitration Place Official Début!

Arbitration Place officially opened its doors to the legal community on April 18th, 2012. The much anticipated grand scale affair garnered the who’s who of Toronto’s litigation bar.  The buzz was certainly on as Arbitration Place recently announced that former Supreme Court of Canada heavy hitter, Justice Ian Binnie had joined the centre as a resident arbitrator.

The other renowned resident arbitrators include Yves Fortier, past President of the London Court of International Arbitration and ranked as one of the leading arbitrators in the world; the Honourable Coulter A. Osborne, former Associate Chief Justice of Ontario; Stanley G. Fisher, a member of ICC Canada, and Thomas G. Heintzman, former president of the Canadian Bar Association.

The London Court of Arbitration, the national committee of the International Chamber of Commerce as well as the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society have partnered with Arbitration Place to promote the use of the centre for arbitration proceedings.

La soirée inoubliable not only showcased a tongue-in-cheek debate between Justice Ian Binnie and litigator Will McDowell, of Lenczner Slaght, moderated by former Supreme Court of Canada, Justice Frank Iacobucci, it also featured graceful contortionists lead by the sound of a harp, signature vodka martinis provided by Absolut vodka’s premium line and delicious canapés catered by Daniel et Daniel.

Over 225 guests attended the evening to welcome our arbitrators and arbitral institutions as well as wish Arbitration Place continued success.  Merci à tous et Bienvenue!
