All the flowers of all of the tomorrows are in the seeds of today.

The Jerusalem Arbitration Centre Luncheon was held at Arbitration Place on April 3, 2012 and brought together significant stakeholders to discuss the new joint enterprise established between ICC Israel and ICC Palestine under the acronym of JAC. The Hon. Bill Graham and former Supreme Court of Justice, the Hon. Ian Binnie were amongst the distinguished guests invited to the delicious luncheon.

Why JAC might you ask? While political tensions between Palestinians and Israelis continue to enflame the region, conservative estimates of annual trade figures between the two sides are between 3 to 4 billion USD, a significant figure by any means. The actual figure could be significantly higher. With the ongoing conflict, the establishment of an impartial, apolitical, and effective commercial dispute resolution mechanism is crucial.

To this end, Oren Schachor and Baruch Mazor from ICC Israel raised JAC’s profile in Canada and gave an overview of the centre’s objectives and current focus. Optimism was le plat du jour.  Oren stated: “we have been doing this since 2010, and we have not received any negative comments, just some skepticism on how the centre will work.” The hope is that the exchange of goods and services as well an impartial commercial dispute resolution mechanism will help foster understanding, communication and collaboration between Israelis and Arabs. Arbitration Place wishes them continued success with their venture.
